Director of Design and Building Information Modeling(BIM)
Peter joined Balfour Beatty in November 2007 after 20+ years in architectural practice. As an architect his work received 2 RIBA Awards as well as Civic Trust Awards and his former practice was awarded the Multi-disciplinary Practice of the year Award.
Peter lectures widely and was elected Vice President of his Professional Institute, the Royal Institute of British Architects (2001-2003). He also served two terms (each of 2 years) on RIBA’s National Council. He was the first Chairman of the RIBA Professional Services Board.
He is a regular contributor to the construction press and the author of several publications. For 10 years (1990-2000) he also worked as a consultant architect to the Steel Construction Institute.
Peter directs Balfour Beatty’s UK-wide BIM Group. He leads Balfour Beatty’s BIM UK Implementation strategy. He is a regular speaker at BIM Conferences and has judged both National Architectural Design and BIM Awards. He chairs their International BIM/VDC Group.
He manages a central team of full time BIM specialists in the UK who provide support to work winning and delivery activities across the business as well as support to Balfour Beatty’s customers.
Balfour Beatty has identified many benefits of BIM particularly to its clients, as project sponsors, owners and investors. It seeks to be leader in the field of BIM by utilising the expertise of its organisational strength and depth- covering all aspects of BIM through the project life cycle.
As of July 2016 Balfour Beatty currently has over 400 BIM projects, of which 80+ are in the UK, 24 in Hong Kong, a few in the Gulf with the majority of the reminder across the USA. They are currently delivering 24 BIM Level 2 projects with a combined value of over £2bn. Its UK business BIM processes were certified in March 2016 by the British Standards Institute. Its Gulf Business received the same certification in July making Balfour Beatty the first UK Tier 1 Contractor with International Certification.
