Brandon Barnett is the Director of Business Innovation at Intel Corporation, where he leads research programs in scientific methods of innovation for companies, markets, and ecosystems in the current climate of social, cultural, and technical change. In his work, he combines business theory, complexity science, ethnographic research, open innovation, and lean startup methods to identify and experiment with opportunities that arise from systems in transformation.

Brandon is a co-founder of the open innovation Vibrant Data Project (WeTheData.org), and his team sponsored the National Day of Civic Hacking (hackforchange.org)-- the nation’s largest hackathon for social good. Brandon’s team managed Intel’s Data Services Accelerator, which brings together strategically aligned startups to extend Big Data market opportunities to individuals by democratizing technology and analytics. His work has been featured in Fast Company, The Wall Street Journal Live, The Washington Post, GigaOm, and InformationWeek. Brandon consults with companies in multiple industries, speaks about his research at leading innovation conferences, and lectures at executive seminars to advance the state of innovation science across industries.

Previously, Brandon held General Manager roles in Intel’s new business incubator and scientist roles in Intel’s next-generation microprocessor technology group. As General Manager of Intel’s Biochip venture, he led a team to develop the world’s first bio-silicon DNA synthesis and detection platform. Brandon is a member of the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute Commercialization Advisory Council and is a co-founder of DNA sequencing company Northshore Biosciences.

Brandon holds an MBA from the Oregon Executive MBA program, a PhD in Applied Physics from the University of Michigan, and a Sc.B. in engineering from Brown University.
